Four top KZN schools in festival

2011-01-12 00:00

THE Independent Schools Festival hosted this year by Michaelhouse begins this morning with all four matches on the Michaelhouse campus. The four large boys-only Independent schools from KZN — Michaelhouse, Hilton, Kearsney and St Charles — play against four invited teams from outside the province.

This year there are two sides from Zimbabwe — St Johns and Peterhouse, together with Bishops and Paarl Boys High. Due to the distances travelled, three of the teams have played earlier matches. Michaelhouse played St Johns yesterday, Kearsney played against Bishops in a 90-over game and 20/20 game on Sunday and Monday, and St Charles played Peterhouse.

Durban High School are also involved in a festival at Grey HS in Port Elizabeth and thus nine of the top 10 sides in KZN are involved in one or other festival where they can sort out the final positions in their team before the domestic season begins.

Seven of the top KZN sides will also be involved in the Sunfoil Night Series, which will be launched with a T20 match on Sunday at the Maritzburg Oval at 6 pm. The match will be between the two finalists from 2010, Maritzburg College — the eventual winners, and the Presidents XI.

Fixtures at Michaelhouse:

Wednesday: Hilton vs Peterhouse; Michaelhouse vs Bishops, Kearsney vs St Johns, St Charles vs Paarl BHS

Thursday: Hilton vs St Johns, Michaelhouse vs Paarl BHS, Kearsney vs Peterhouse, St Charles vs Bishops

Friday: Hilton vs Bishops, Michaelhouse vs Peterhouse, Kearsney vs Paarl BHS, St Charles vs. St Johns
