Fraud: Councillors laud Haswell for firm stance

2008-07-31 00:00

Msunduzi municipal manager Rob Haswell has been congratulated by councillors for taking a firm stance in the fight against fraud and corruption within the municipality during the first seating of full council in a public domain at Truro Hall on Wednesday.

This follows the suspension of five municipal employees for alleged fraud and corruption in the past three weeks. Deputy Mayor Mervyn Dirks called for an investigation into the infrastructure services and facilities division.

Dirks said that employees there are treating the division as if it is theirs and they are not doing their jobs properly. He said some use council vehicles to take soccer players to games and others sleep under trees instead of working.
