Fraud: new summons for Sizani ngubane

2009-11-09 00:00

POLICE have taken additional statements that were required in connection with fraud allegations against the director of the Rural Women’s Movement, Sizani Ngubane

They have resubmitted the docket to the prosecuting authorities for her to be summoned to court.

SAPS spokeswoman Joey Jeevan said the fraud charge had been withdrawn against Ngubane a short while ago.

This was done so that a number of outstanding statements could be obtained by the investigating officer.

He has since resubmitted the docket for a regional court date and a summons has been issued, she added.

The case had been set down for hearing in a district magistrate’s court, but because the alleged fraud involves items valued at more than R100 000, prosecutors said it exceeds the lower court’s jurisdiction and has to be dealt with in the regional court.

The charge against Ngubane is one of alleged insurance fraud. She has not yet pleaded to the charge.
