Fraud rap: firm in liquidation

2009-11-21 00:00

INDIZA Infrastructure Solutions, the company that is embroiled in a court case with the Education Department relating to a tender to manage the procurement and distribution of textbooks and stationery to schools in 2007, has been placed under provisional liquidation.

It is alleged Indiza committed fraud by overcharging the department by R197 million.

Paul Firman of Stowell & Co. told Weekend Witness yesterday that Indiza failed to pay rent on a warehouse facility in Willowton between June 2008 and October 2009.

Stowell & Co. is acting on behalf of Indiza’s landlord, Vital Property Investments.

Firman said the outstanding amount is R930 407. He added that the final liquidation order is expected to be granted next month, provided there is no opposition to the liquidation.

The Indiza boss, Jabulani Mabaso, faces charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering amounting to R227 million. He was previously accused of failing to pay R43 million in VAT to the SA Revenue Service.
