Free state and Boland only unbeaten sides at Khaya Majola week

THE third day of the under-19 Coca Cola Khaya Majola Week in Bloemfontein saw sides playing two T20 matches.

Hosts Free State and Boland are the only two teams to be unbeaten after the first four matches.

Boland were the only team to score more than 150 runs in their two games on Sunday, but they nearly came unstuck in the first match against KZN Inland.

Jean Bredenkamp led the batting onslaught with 60 in 50 balls, as Boland reached 152 for four. Andrew Hay (Maritzburg College) was the most successful of the bowlers, taking two wickets for 21 in four overs of spin.

Unfortunately, Inland lost both College team-mates, Jarryd Walsh (81 in 61 balls) and Tyler Lortan (36 in 38) with the score on 137.

The pair had added 123 in 95 balls for the second wicket.

With two new batsmen at the crease, the nine runs required in the last over was just not attainable and Inland ended on 148 for four.

After lunch, Inland won a tough encounter against Gauteng.

After electing to bat, Gauteng reached 100 for three, but in an effort to score rapidly in the last four overs, and with some good bowling by Keagan Davids (St Charles) and sharp fielding, only scored another five runs and lost four wickets.

Inland paced themselves well, taking their score of 55 for two in 10 overs to the win, with three balls to spare and six wickets in hand.

Nicholas Hendrie (College) held the batting together with an undefeated 56 in 66 balls.
