French star leads BMX qualifying

DAMIEN Godet of France upstaged the powerful American and Dutch challengers when he squeezed in the fastest qualifying time on day 1 of round 2 of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup yesterday.

Raymond van der Biezen of the Netherlands and Olympic silver medallist Mike Day of the United States posted the second and third fastest times respectively as American and Dutch riders filled six of the top seven positions.

Current Elite men’s World Champion Donny Robinson (USA) was fifth fastest, while top world junior Sam Willoughby (AUS) was ninth. The top South African was Jonathan Chislett, who was 37th overall.

In the women’s qualifying round, New Zealand’s Sarah Walker clocked the fastest time of 32,96 seconds. Second and third respectively were Eva Ailloud of France and Jana Horakova of the Czech Republic.

South Africa’s Teagan O’Keeffe was 12th best in 35604.
