Friend allegedly kills man with pair of scissors

A NORTHDALE man has allegedly stabbed his friend to death with a pair of scissors, a day after he told his friend’s brother he was planning the murder, the brother claimed.

Kevin Moodley (39) was walking home in Cochin Circle, Northdale, when he was allegedly confronted and stabbed by the accused on Tuesday at about 3.30 pm.

Moodley’s brother Nicky Moodley alleged that he had received a phone call on Monday afternoon from the accused.

“He told me that he was going to stab him to death when they met, but he did not explain why. I was surprised by that as they are best friends. I warned my brother about this, but he too did not explain what the problem between them was,” said Nicky.

He said the family was distraught at the death of Moodley. He said they had treated the accused as a member of their family.

“The accused was in and out of our home as he was a friend of my brother’s. We had no problem with him,” said Nicky.

He said his brother was supporting his family and was self-employed.

Yesterday, Moodley’s friends gathered at the place where he was killed. They lit a candle and placed a vase with flowers at the scene. At the family home, preparations for Moodley’s funeral have started.

One of his friends, Erwin Chetty, said the victim was a humble person.

“He was a good-hearted friend who had never had a case of violence against him. He sold DVDs and perfumes. He was the kind of friend that is too hard to find in this world,” said Chetty.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the motive for the killing was unknown. Mountain Rise police arrested a 36-year-old man and he has been charged with murder. He will appear in court soon,” said Naicker.
