Friends and Sando in two-horse title race

2014-08-15 00:00

THE Durban Central Football Association (DCFA) Premier League is coming down to a two-horse race between Greenwood Park Friends and Sando. Juventus, leaders for most of the season, have dropped to fourth.

Friends top the log on 46 points, one ahead of the hard-chasing Sando, while Juventus find themselves seven points adrift of Friends.

Defending league champions Newlands are in third, also on 39 points, ahead of Juventus on goal difference and while the league is not over for them yet, they have their work cut out to haul in the front runners.

At the other end of the table, Westville Old Boys (WOB) have tried gamely to have a say in their matches, but with only 13 points and a handful of matches remaining, the question is whether they will stay up and avoid the drop.

Stars have given themselves more of a realistic chance to stay up, despite sitting on 17 points. The four teams above them — Hearts, New Orleans, Villa Park and Stella — are all within five points of Stars and the battle for survival between these sides will heat up as the last matches come around.

Stella are currently enjoying a great run and have aided their mission to stay up with two wins on the trot, beating Hearts and Juventus.

This weekend is the quarter-finals of the knockout cup competition at Tills 1 and 2.
