Friends of Princess Charlene thrilled with double royal birth

2014-12-12 00:00

WITH the birth of twins to Princess Charlene of Monaco (formerly Wittstock), friends of the princess are over the moon about the royal delivery.

South African 2012 Olympic coach Wayne Riddin said he was happy for the princess and her husband.

“Monaco phoned me last night to inform me of the birth. She couldn’t have asked for anything better. Having a boy and a girl is very special,” said Riddin.

“I am absolutely thrilled for her and it was a very special moment for me when Monaco called to tell me the good news.”

Riddin was the man who gave permission to Prince Albert to take Charlene on their first date in 2006.

Charlene’s official swimming coach, Graham Hill, said the birth of the twins was wonderful news.

“It is beautiful and really great. I am very happy for her and sent her a message when I learnt about the birth,” he said. “I spoke to her about a month ago and we talked about the pregnancy, and she was very excited.”

Olympic swimmer and friend to the princess, Chad le Clos, said it was fantastic news for both South Africa and Monaco.

“We are all psyched about it and it’s huge for Monaco to now have an heir to the throne,” he said.

Le Clos said his next visit with the princess would most likely be next year with his swimming team.

The birth of the twins, Jacques and Gabriella, was announced by the palace late on Wednesday.

Jacques, who was born two minutes after his sister, is heir to the throne.
