Gamalakhe worker finds dumped foetus in rubbish bag

2011-09-07 00:00

AN Hibiscus Coast Municipality worker was greeted with a gruesome sight while cleaning in the Gamalakhe area yesterday afternoon.

While collecting refuse on Ray Nkonyeni Road in Esikhaleni, “the worker noticed a black bag which was dripping with blood”, said a spokesperson for Margate police, Pumzile Makaula.

A tiny limb was sticking out of the bag. When police arrived on the scene they discovered that it was an aborted foetus of about seven months.

The sex could not be identified.

The cause of death is unknown and police are investigating a case of concealment of birth. “At this stage we do not know who the mother of the unborn child is. Police are still investigating,” Makaula said.

Anybody who has information that could assist police should call Margate police station at 039 312 9805.
