Gang kills man for airtime

2012-11-27 00:00

A 27-YEAR-OLD man died when four armed thugs robbed a tuckshop, fleeing with cellphone airtime and cash.

The gang had visited the store in the Nkambibi location, in the Hibberdene area, on Saturday.

They returned in the evening, three of them carrying firearms and the other a knife.

They demanded cash and airtime, before firing shots, leaving one person dead and two others wounded. Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the perpetrators fled with airtime vouchers.

Police are investigating murder, attempted murder and business robbery.

“No arrests have been made as yet,” said Wiid.

She said further investigation had also established that the dead man had sustained a stab wound to the chest.

“The two victims who were injured sustained a gunshot wound to the head and a gunshot wound to the chest respectively,” said Wiid.

They are still in hospital. A cellphone and some cash were also taken from the shop.
