Gateway: Special ‘Slumdog’ premiere

2009-02-15 00:00

FILM fans have the chance to watch hot Oscar favourite Slumdog Millionaire at a special premiere at SterKinekor Gateway tomorrow night.

There will also be special premieres in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and the author of the novel Q & A, on which the film is based, Vikas Swarup, will be attending the Johannesburg event. Swarup is India’s deputy high commissioner to SA.

Slumdog Millionaire is the hot favourite to win the Oscar for Best Film and has already cleaned up at the Golden Globes and the Baftas.

Directed by Danny Boyle of Trainspotting fame, the film tells the story of an impoverished Mumbai orphan who, against all expectations, does exceptionally well on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?. The film is of particular interest to local audiences because of its South African connections — the televised cricket match portrayed in a scene in the movie is a 2007 one-day international played between India and South Africa.

Book your tickets through the Gateway box-office or phone 082 167 89.
