Get in on the ‘Clean Up the World’ weekend

2008-09-17 00:00

About 30 bags of rubbish were collected at the trash boom on the Msunduzi River yesterday morning. Duzi Umngeni Conservation Trust (Duct) put up the trash boom, which has helped to capture rubbish washed down by water released from Henley Dam.

Duct’s campaign is being run in conjunction with Clean Up the World Weekend this weekend, when organisations, businesses and communities around the world conduct activities to improve the environment.

Anyone who wishes to help Duct with this Saturday’s Witness Msunduzi River Care Day should meet on the riverbank near the YMCA (Chief Albert Luthuli Road) at 8 am. Or they can join a group closer to their area by calling Andrew at 082 603 4098.

Hulamin is the main sponsor. Other local companies that are helping include Protecto-Wear, which is supplying gloves, and Ubukhosi Trading Enterprise, which is providing a compactor truck for the rubbish.
