Giant Bafana jersey to collar PMB soon

THE Unite Mzansi Unite (UMU) campaign is coming to Pietermaritzburg and will be at the Harry Gwala Stadium on February 23, starting at 11 am.

The campaign, which aims to promote the upcoming World Cup, started in December last year and has been travelling the country with many South Africans signing the giant Adidas-produced Bafana Bafana jersey to register their support for the national football team.

Among the high-profile leaders who have signed the jersey pledging their support are President Jacob Zuma, Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, the 2010 Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan, Safa president Kirsten Nematendani, Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena and KZN Premier Zweli Mkhize.

Siyabonga Mahlaba, one of the organisers of the event, said the UMU initiative aims to bring the nation behind Bafana Bafana and the World Cup.

“We have encouraged people to wear yellow on Fridays, because yellow has became our national colour with the coming World Cup,” said Mahlaba.
