Giants of local gospel coming to KZN

THE giants of South African gospel music will be performing at the Rebecca Malope Ebenezer Celebration Concert in Durban on September 18.

Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors, Sechaba and Sifiso Ncwane are among the artists who will be sharing the Durban Christian Centre stage with Malope as the World Gospel PowerHouse salutes and celebrates the life and achievements of this gospel legend.

Malope, the first recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards, will perform popular hits from all her albums, including Iyahamba Lenqola, Hlala Nami and My Hero.

Supporting her on stage will be Total Praise from Mpumalanga township. The group, whose members are Xolile Ndlovu, Muzi Xulu and Machaka Zondi, formed in 1998 and have released four albums to-date, including 2009’s Abantwanyana.

Before the concert, there will be a gala dinner starting at 5 pm. The concert will start at 7 pm and tickets cost R150 from Computicket.

The Rebecca Malope Ebenezer Celebration comes ahead of the second SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards, which takes place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hall at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban on November 22 at 6 pm.

And gospel music lovers have the chance to nominate their favourite artists or groups before nominations close on September 16.

The categories are: Best Male Gospel Artist, Best Female Gospel Artist, Best Newcomer, Best Accapella — open (solo/group), Best Gospel Group, Best Album Contemporary: Traditional, Best Pop/Rock Gospel (solo/group) Best Traditional Gospel (solo/group), Best Choral Album, Best Maskandi Gospel Music (solo/group), Best R&B/Rap Gospel (solo/group), Best Praise and Worship. Others are best Best Gospel Instrumental (solo /group), Best AmaZion (solo/group), Best Jazz (solo/group), Best DVD, Best Selling Album, Classic of All Times, Best Engineer, Best Gospel Music Video, Best Gospel Producer, Best Gospel Artist, Best Song Writer and Best Gospel Song.
