Gift of Givers stalled

THE Gift of the Givers Foundation has a relief team ready to go to Japan, but is waiting for the go-ahead.

The Pietermaritzburg-based foundation said in a statement yesterday it has been ready to go since Friday, but the organisation it co-ordinates with in Japan, the Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (Skif), has advised it to wait because the Japanese government cannot transport all the relief teams to the areas where help is needed.

Spokesperson Ayesha Sooliman said they have put their team of 17 rescuers and two dogs on standby, but Skif is already distributing food, water and blankets that Gift of the Givers had bought. To contribute to the relief effort, call 0 0800 786 911 or go to
