Girl (12) escapes Malawian kidnapper

NORTHDALE parents are reportedly taking extra measures to protect their children after a 12-year-old girl was nearly abducted recently.

A Malawian national accosted a grade seven pupil as she walked along Bombay Road to W.A. Lewitts Primary School at about 7.30 am on April 13. Having visions that she was his wife, he kept begging her to go with him to “their home”.

The girl’s father, Danny Pillay, said he was struggling to recover from the shock of nearly having his daughter kidnapped. “He told her that she should come home with him. She stepped back thinking that he was talking to someone else. But he followed her to school and kept calling her his wife.” At the school gate a neighbour and a security guard apprehended the man who was handed to police.

A school employee who cannot be named said, “He said we must stop wasting his time and give him his wife.”

Pillay said, “I’m still very upset because police let the guy go, apparently because he did not do anything to her. They were supposed to arrest him and deport him, but they found out that he had papers to be in the country. Now this guy might do this again as he knows that he will never be arrested.

“Now my daughter’s cousin takes my her to school every morning, and after school I take her back home,” he said.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said there was no case recorded of the incident.
