Girl (9) raped: Man gets 18-year jail sentence

2011-09-02 00:00

A 32-YEAR-OLD man was convicted and sentenced by the Camperdown regional court yesterday for the rape of a nine-year-old girl who was on her way to buy chips at a tuck shop.

Fikasikhona Caiphus Ngwane from Ndunakazi in Inchanga was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment and will only be considered for parole after serving 12 years.

Magistrate Frederick Heuer said Ngwane did not testify, leaving the state’s case unchallenged.

The medical report shows that the DNA matched with the accused’s sample. Heuer said an evaluation of the evidence given by the child must be approached with caution.

The mother of the complainant told the court that in March last year her child came home crying and explained what happened. She said the child was traumatised. They reported the matter to the police and the child was taken to the doctor. — Witness Reporter.
