Girl dies under truck wheels

2011-05-20 00:00

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD girl died and six other children under 10 were injured when a truck collided with a bakkie on a gravel road in the Gcilima district near Margate yesterday.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene to find the crumpled remains of the bakkie and the truck obstructing the road,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

The little girl was found under the wheels of the truck, and died of her extensive injuries. The other six children, aged between seven and 10, were taken to the Gcilima clinic by private transport.

Netcare 911 paramedics stabilised the seriously injured children at the clinic with the help of the nursing staff, and then transported them to the Port Shepstone provincial hospital.
