Glenwood enter season well prepared

2012-02-28 00:00

GLENWOOD has been caught offsides after taking a two-week four-match tour to the Argentine in the middle of a school term.

While it was successful from a rugby and probably a cultural point of view, it took over 30 boys out of the classroom, many of whom are in matric. It has also put Glenwood at an unfair advantage in the domestic fixture on March 17 when they have been fixtured against Michaelhouse. The latter have many of their rugby players playing cricket. This is Glenwood’s second fixture as they play Westville on March 10.

Michaelhouse will start preparing for the season this week and added to their worries is that a number of the Glenwood players are U19. It is not clear how many of the U19 players will be eligible to play in their domestic fixtures.

Glenwood had a Gold and a Green team on the tour. The Gold team was the younger of the two teams with many of the Green team U19. The first match was against the strong Rosario club. The Gold team lost 22-29. The Green team did very well to win 12-5.

They then moved to Cordoba where they played the Jockey club. The Gold team drew 5-5 and the Green team again won 12-5.

The third match was against Mendoza U18s and U19s. The Gold team, after being 0-12 at half-time, played better in the second half losing 7-19. The Green team against the U19A team played sublime rugby. They moved the ball around using space effectively to score eight tries and win 59-14.
