Glenwood look to unseat College

2013-08-03 00:00

THERE is just one match on the astro today to complete the school’s hockey fixtures for the season in KwaZulu-Natal. It takes place on the Three Schools surface at Glenwood, where they host Maritzburg College.

This is a return fixture after the first match at College last term, when College won the game 2-1. If College had been successful with the chances that were offered but missed, the winning margin could have been greater.

Glenwood does have some talented players and it will be the home side that will make it difficult for College. Glenwood have been one of the teams that have shown much progress this year and on their home pitch they will be looking for a rare victory against College.

Both teams have good defence and if goal-scoring opportunities arise, they need to be taken, as they are likely to be few and far between. College has lost just one game against KZN opposition, the first of two matches against Hilton. Glenwood has lost two games, against College and against Northwood. College was the only side in the country to beat Northwood.

This is Glenwood’s last home game, as next week they play their last match in Bloemfontein against Grey College. This is College’s last match of the season. Thus, both will want to end with a victory — College to make it a memorable end to the 150th anniversary of their school and Glenwood to break College’s stranglehold on victories against them.
