Glenwood take the fight to Bloem

2009-08-15 00:00

GLENWOOD is the only KZN school rugby side playing today. They have travelled to Bloemfontein to take on the might of Grey College. After the Glenwood win against Affies in Pretoria, the Durban side moved up in the unofficial rankings to second. Before their loss, Affies had been second to Grey.

When Affies played Grey towards the end of last term, Grey won 30-13. Glenwood beat Affies 24-10. On those two results this match should be a cliff-hanger. Grey will have home ground advantage and there season has been against the best in South Africa, whereas Glenwood have largely played in KZN, other than the game against Affies. Grey will be more accustomed to soaking up pressure than Glenwood and this could prove the difference between the two teams.

Last Wednesday, the first round of the Midlands School’s Sevens tournament was played at the Woodburn complex in the Capital. Each team played three matches and the improvement in the game of Sevens was plain to see from the early match until the last one.

Three sides in particular, look to be the ones that will certainly be in the semi-finals, Kearsney, Maritzburg College and Michaelhouse. The latter were probably the side that showed the greatest skill in the game and look as if they will be one of the finalists. The results from the first round will be published on Tuesday.
