Glenwood top Pool B of night league

2010-02-13 00:00

THE last of the round robin matches in the Sunfoil Schools Night League took place on Thursday between Hilton and Glenwood. A disappointingly small crowd witnessed a relatively high-scoring game that included the first century of the league.

As 30-run winners, Glenwood topped Pool B and knocked Hilton out of the competition. Michaelhouse was the second-placed team, winning one match and finishing on the same points as Kearsney, who had all three games cancelled because of rain.

Glenwood elected to bat and after losing a wicket in the first over, added 69 for the second wicket, between Prenalen Subrayen (32) and Dylan Browne. Richard Wissing (35) joined Browne and a further 93 runs were added for the fourth wicket.

Browne went on to record not only the first ton of the league, but also his first for Glenwood. He ended on 110, which included 12 fours, scored in 120 balls .

At the end of 40 overs Glenwood reached 220 for 6, which is the top score thus far.

Hilton also lost an early wicket, but their partnerships did not match those of Glenwood and with their run rate always behind the required rate, they had to take more risks. This resulted in wickets falling and in the 39th over they were all out for 190.

Pool B points show Glenwood, after two wins, with 7,5 points, Michaelhouse and Kearsney both with 4,5 points and Hilton with 1,5 points.

Score in brief: Glenwood 220-6 (Subrayen 32, Wissing 35, Browne 110, Groom 3/43). Hilton 190 (Chaplin 43, Matthews 61, Slabbert 25). Glenwood won by 30 runs
