Golden Horse to become Southern Sun hotel

2013-07-15 00:00

THE Golden Horse Hotel in Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg, will become a luxury Southern Sun Hotel from September 1 and will be marketed under the group’s Sun Burst brand.

Tsogo Sun has been managing the hotel since May 1 this year. It was brought into the Tsogo Sun fold as part of the Golden Horse Casino complex to create a seamless entertainment, leisure and hospitality destination in Pietermaritzburg, Maureen Kivits, complex GM and director of operations, said in a statement.

The change means the hotel will benefit from the group’s benefits, such as the frequent guest programme.

Tsogo Sun’s portfolio includes 14 casinos and over 90 hotels incorporating the Deluxe, Southern Sun Hotels, SunSquare, Garden Court, StayEasy and Southern Sun Resorts hotels.

Some refurbishments are being carried out at the moment.

These include the completion of a casual dining restaurant and coffee shop, installation of free WiFi, a new guest business centre, a new entrance and aesthetic changes to the rooms. Every room will be equipped with a mini bar fridge, a safe, 26 TV channel line-up, and complimentary tea/coffee making facilities. The conference centre will also undergo minor changes.

The hotel currently features 96 rooms, including a presidential suite, three suites, and two rooms for disabled persons, conference facilities for 300 people and an outdoor swimming pool.

“We are pleased to incorporate the Golden Horse into our complex. It means that we are able to extend our already growing array of options by offering our guests high quality conferencing facilities and accommodation with the promise of Southern Sun’s premium standard of service, value for money, and range of customer benefits,” the release said.
