Golf: Mattiace shares lead at Leopard Creek

MALELANE (Mpumalanga) — Leopard Creek was certainly in a charitable mood in yesterday’s first round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, and Len Mattiace was one of the chief beneficiaries.

The American, making his first appearance in this tournament, opened with a seven under par 65 to share the lead with Swede Michael Jonzon.

European Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood is amongst four players one stroke off the lead, while former champion Charl Schwartzel and Richard Sterne both opened with rounds of four-under-par 68, Rory Sabbatini signed for a 69 and Rory McIlroy a 71.
