Good start to croquet club year

2008-02-19 00:00

The new year has continued with an encouraging and regular turnout of 18 to 20 players on both Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, resulting in all three of the lawns being put to full use.

After a long absence, association croquet is being played at the club once again, although golf croquet continues to be the favourite game.

Play takes place on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons (starting at 2 pm). Association croquet will start at 1 pm.

Tim Lewin is running a clinic at the club on Monday afternoons at 2.30 pm to teach players the art, skills and basic rules of association croquet and anyone interested is encouraged to come along. Mallets can be supplied by the club.

Anyone wishing to watch or perhaps try out the sport is welcome to arrive on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 pm. The MCC is situated in Park Drive opposite the cricket Oval in Alex Park.

The Port Alfred Highlander tournament is being held from April 6 to 12 and MCC will be represented by Alison and Tim Lewin, Diane Bendzulla and Gordon and Jennifer Willington.

On the national scene, the Pre-World Championships warm up is being held at Johannesburg Country Club on March 3 to 6 and some 20 overseas players will be there practising.
