Goosen will find his kicking boots

CAPE TOWN — Cheetahs backline coach Hawies Fourie believes flyhalf Johan Goosen will soon find his goal-kicking range again. Goosen struggled with his kicks at goal in the first two Super Rugby games this year, returning below-par figures of three from six against the Sharks and one from four against the Chiefs last week.

However, Fourie said the Springbok has sufficiently recovered from a niggling left-heel injury and believes it’s only a matter of time before he finds the range which saw him amass 145 points in nine Super Rugby matches last year.

Fourie said that Goosen is putting in the extra practice as they prepare to face the Highlanders in Invercargill on Saturday.

The coach is adamant that his young star will regain the magic touch which made him a Springbok in 2012.

“Johan works hard enough at his kicking. I’m sure we’ll see him kick like we know he can within a week or two. Last year he was successful with something like 86% or 87% of his kicks.”

The Cheetahs are currently last on the overall log. Their clash against the Highlanders at Rugby Park kicks off at 8.35 am (SA time) on Saturday.
