Gorge rescue dog seeks owner

2014-11-04 00:00

THE devoted dog rescued from Kloof Gorge last week has been returned to health and is ready for adoption.

Public relations and marketing officer of the Kloof and Highway SPCA Lisa Gadd said that no owner had come to claim the Africanis crossbreed.

“He sits in Kennel 73, waiting to be adopted and after what he went through, he really deserves to be,’ she said. “We have had one person interested in seeing him.”

The dog was rescued by volunteer group RescueTech along with a female partner who died shortly afterwards having spent more than a week stuck on a cliff ledge.

The male dog heard rescue experts on a nearby training exercise and “yelped just like a human cry for help,” according to Jon Sargood, RescueTech chairperson.

When the dog was brought to the SPCA he was severely dehydrated and starved, according to Gadd.

“We put him on medication and had him eating and drinking in moderation to get back to his healthy self.”

“He had a relapse last week where he just stopped eating and we had to put him back on medication and since then he has responded well.”

Gadd said the dog was “absolutely better” this week.

“He is a loving and friendly dog who loves people. He goes on walks every day and is lots of fun and full of life.”

Gadd said that she hoped someone would claim the dog. “This is a lovely breed, well-known, social and gentle.”

“He has been through a lot, we still do not know how long they were both on the ledge, but we hope he will be adopted.”
