IN her maiden address dedicated to struggle stalwart Billy Nair, MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Maggie Govender noted that within two months of taking office, she has fired seven officials found guilty of accepting bribes or misconduct.

In a press briefing, Govender said there were other cases under investigation. The officials involved ranged from the level of deputy director downwards and the cases involved tender abuse and collusion with suppliers

Govender said she has also launched an Asikhulume e-mail link on the Department of Public Works website, adding that anyone can comment, lodge complaints and report wrongdoings directly to her.
