Govt to train matriculants

2008-01-10 00:00

If you have recently passed matric and are uncertain about the future because of the lack of opportunities, stress no more, the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) might be the thing for you.

NSDS is a national government initiative co-ordinated through the Labour Department and the Sector Education and Training Authorities (Setas).

Through the programme, they identify learnership seekers and link them up with the right companies offering training in that particular field.

They do this through the Employment Skills Development Agencies (ESDA), which are distributed through the country.

More than 100 000 scholarships have been provided in the seven years that the service has been active, but organisers believe many young people have missed out on the opportunities, simply because of a lack of awareness.

To access the learnership and to get more information contact Yvonne Pelle at the KZN ESDA offices on 031 462 3913.
