Grammys: Rapper West goes up, Gaga goes south

KANYE West leads the Grammy Awards 2012 nominations with seven nods.

The rapper’s single All of the Lights is up for song of the year, best rap/sung collaboration and best rap song, while his track Otis, with Jay-Z, picks up two nods in the best rap performance and best rap song categories.

West, who has picked up 14 trophies at the annual American music awards since 2005, also has two nominations in the best rap album category, for his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy record and Watch the Throne a collaboration with Jay-Z.

Adele and the Foo Fighters follow with six nominations each, with the former picking up nods in some of the night’s biggest categories, including record of the year and song of the year for the single Rolling in the Deep and album of the year for 21.

Foo Fighters are nominated for album of the year and best rock album for Wasting Light, best rock performance for single Walk and best hard rock/metal performance for White Limo.

Bruno Mars’s single Grenade picked up three nominations, for record of the year, song of the year and best pop solo performance, while his Doo-Wops & Hooligans album is up for album of the year and best pop vocal album.

Rapper Lil Wayne, who is headed to South Africa this month, also has five nominations.

Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, gained only three nominations each.
