Grandson sees granny raped by teenager

POLICE have arrested the teenage grandson and neighbour of an 80-year-old woman after she was raped at her home in Esigodini on Monday.

The neighbour was beaten by locals after he was allegedly caught in the act by another grandson. They will both appear in court today.

The elderly woman’s daughter told The Witness that her mother was shocked and traumatised.

“Even though I was not at home at the time, I don’t know why they arrested my son as he was not at home at the time either,” said the mother.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said it is believed that the woman’s 15-year-old grandson and his 18-year-old neighbour were watching TV in the lounge, when the grandson went into the kitchen to make tea.

“On returning to the lounge, the grandson noticed that the neighbour had disappeared,” said Jeevan.

She said it is alleged that he then went into his grandmother’s bedroom and found the 18-year-old neighbour allegedly raping his grandmother.

The grandson then ran out of the house and began shouting for assistance. Neighbours responded to him and allegedly assaulted the teen before handing him over to the police.

During the assault, the suspect allegedly said that he and the victim’s other 18-year-old grandson had previously raped the granny together.

The 18-year-old grandson was immediately arrested.

The neighbour is believed to be in a serious but stable condition at a local hospital after the assault.

The woman is receiving counselling.
