Grannies get some pampering

2014-07-19 00:00

GRANNIES gave deep sighs of contentment as expert hands kneaded away knots of stress for their 67 minutes initiative on Mandela Day yesterday.

The women of Othandweni Mobile Therapists with the help of the South African Christian Organisation of Prisoners (Sachop) treated over 50 Lindalani grannies to a lunch, new clothes and back and foot massages.

“I feel so relieved after my massage, it’s like this huge weight has been taken off my shoulders and all my stresses have been removed,” said Smangelie Vilakazi, recipient of one of the massages. Ethel Ngidi said this was her first massage. She described it as heavenly.

“Lindalani is an area that has an extremely high crime rate,” said Sipho Zungu, the co-ordinator for the organisation.

The Sachop are a group of reformed former inmates, who now want to give back to a community they believe is constantly under stress due to crime in the area.

“Each and every member of the community deserves to feel safe, be pampered and stress-free,” said Lucky Mthuli, chairperson of the organisation.

Busi Majola, owner of Othandweni Mobile Therapists, said: “I believe the elderly people should be treated like family and helping them has been an absolute pleasure so I will sacrifice my time. They were so happy, they started singing and dancing, they really appreciated what we did and this made us feel so good,” she said.
