Granny (71) turned out in hospital gown

A 71-YEAR-OLD woman was sent home from Northdale Hospital in her hospital gown and with a drip still sticking out of her right hand on Thursday afternoon.

Francis Titus of Pietermaritz Street was admitted on Monday night for high blood pressure, high sugar levels and complications arising from a stroke, among other ailments.

She was taken to the hospital with vomiting and diarrhoea.

Her granddaughter, Rooksana Shaik, said Titus suffers from a heart condition and kidney problems.

When her family visited her on Thursday, Shaik said they found her on her own with an empty drip bag.

“The staff told us to take her away and her medication was already in the locker. Her clothing was missing and the staff never bothered to help us put Granny on the wheelchair,” said Shaik.

Titus’s daughter, who declined to be named as she works in the private health sector, said it was unhygienic for the hospital to have let her leave the premises with a drip and hospital clothing.

“This behaviour is unprofessional and a danger to patients. This hand could get sceptic and that could lead to amputation ... When I took my mother there, I was hoping she would get the proper care that senior citizens deserve from state health facilities.”
