Great cast for new ‘Hulk

2008-06-13 00:00

FOUR new films open today in the city. The Happening, The Incredible Hulk, Never Back Down and Mama’s Boy are all showing at CineCentre, with The Happening also at Ster Kinekor. Made of Honour now joins the Nu Metro line-up.

M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) directs The Happening, starring Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo. This is a thriller about a family on the run from an inexplicable event. Chilling deaths that defy reason erupt in major American cities. What is causing this sudden, total breakdown of human behaviour? Elliot Moore and his wife, with a friend and his daughter, set off in an attempt to escape.

Never Back Down is directed by Jeff Wadlow and stars Sean Faris, Amber Heard, Cam Gigandet and Djimon Hounsou. It is the story of a troubled teen who moves to a new school in the city, and picks a fight with the resident bully. He loses, but decides to go the route of martial arts — a way to reach acceptance and find himself. Reviews have suggested that it is all rather nasty.

Marvel comics superhero The Incredible Hulk makes a screen comeback, directed by Louis Leterrier. Edward Norton stars, and also had a hand in the screenplay. He plays Dr Bruce Banner, who must utilise the genetic accident that transforms him into a giant, rampaging hulk to stop a former soldier who purposely becomes an even more dangerous version. Also starring Liv Tyler, Tim Roth and William Hurt — a good cast.

Mama’s Boy is directed by Tim Hamilton and stars Diane Keaton, Jon Heder and Jeff Daniels. Heder plays a 29-year-old slacker who lives with his mother. When he realises his comfortable life is threatened by her relationship with her self-help guru beau, he plans trouble for them. It sounds as if it could be the synopsis of a psychological thriller, but it is actually a comedy.
