THE Greek national football side arrived at King Shaka International Airport at about 7 am yesterday.

The winners of the Euro 2004 tournament became the third team that will be based in KwaZulu-Natal to arrive in the country.

Members of “The Pirate Ship”, as the team are known by fans, are staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Umhlanga, north of Durban.

The side were met at King Shaka by Durban Mayor Obed Mlaba and the province’s 2010 co-ordination general manager Phindile Makwakwa.

The side were led out by team captain Giorgos Karagounis and coach Otto Rehhagel.

Greece play their first World Cup match against the Korea Republic in Port Elizabeth on June 12 and are grouped alongside their June 12 rivals, Nigeria and Argentina, to make up Group B.
