Guests only: Zuma Jnr’s Wedding a private affair

2011-10-08 00:00

STRICT and visible security was maintained when President Jacob Zuma’s eldest son, Edward (34), tied the knot with Durban beauty Phumele Shange (26) at the popular Tala Game Reserve near Camperdown yesterday.

Several police vans and private security officers surrounded the entrance to the lodge, carefully screening guests and turning away those who were not on the guest list, including a Weekend Witness team.

The grooms’ excited relatives from Nkandla filled a convoy of three taxis.

The bride walked down the aisle in what was described as a “fairytale” dress created by local designer Francois Vedemme. He refused to say what the dress looked like. “The bride has asked me not to talk to you guys about the dress, so I have to respect her wishes,” said Vedemme.

The traditional ceremonies such as umabo (gift presentation and the customary wedding will be held at the president’s homestead in Nkandla throughout the weekend. Guests expected to attend the nuptials today include General Bheki Cele, sushi king Kenny Kunene and Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande.

Inkosi Bheki Zuma of the Nxamalala clan said the preparations for the big do are under way. “The people are very excited about the wedding and cannot wait to welcome the new bride into the family.”
