Guides trained for midlands

2010-09-22 00:00

FAIR Trade Tourism South Africa has announced the successful training of 19 new tour guides to serve the midlands as a result of sponsorship by the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund.

The training was achieved in close co-operation with Zulu Mpophomeni Tourism Experience and the Midlands Meander Association.

Candidates were carefully

selected for their current involvement in the tourism industry and their determination to move up to the next level.

The fully accredited national qualification framework level 2 site guide training covers subjects such as a code of conduct and ethics; the role of the tour operator; and government, provincial and regional involvement. Candidates were also given an overview of the tourism industry, the history and culture of the midlands and, most importantly, how to create a guided tour and communicate with visitors.
