Hadebe: Usuthu star sets his sights on Bafana

2011-07-18 00:00

AMAZULU’s best player of the 2010/11 season, the diminutive Sibusiso Hadebe, aims to make the Bafana Bafana team that will participate in the 2012 African Cup of Nations and 2014 World Cup.

Having represented South Africa at U17, U20 and U23 level, Hadebe — who was the big winner at the Durban club’s awards ceremony held at Suncoast Casino this weekend — now dreams of turning out for the senior national team.

However, that will depend on whether he maintains or betters the impressive individual performances he displayed for AmaZulu, who had a relatively bad campaign season.

“I am excited to be getting these awards. They will motivate me to keep working hard so that I catch Pitso Mosimane’s eye. I have played for my country at junior level; now I want to step up,” said the stocky utility player who bagged two awards on the night.

The former Jomo Cosmos and Thanda Royal Zulu man was awarded the Moment of Brilliance, sponsored by Suncoast Casino, and the Players’ Player awards. Clutching Battling to clutch on one of the trophies, Hadebe said of the upcoming season, “The fans should expect good things to come this season.”
