Handover of new hotel well ahead of opening

STAKEHOLDERS involved in the R100 million StayEasy Pietermaritzburg by Southern Sun hotel will have ample time to put the final touches to the major development over the next two weeks.

The hotel will open its doors on March 15, 2010.

The official handover of the hotel, which took place yesterday, represents the longest lead time given to Southern Sun, according to Dhayalan Naidoo, operations director for StayEasy.

“Achieving practical completion, where the construction work is finished and the building is certified for occupation 16 days prior to the hotel’s official launch, gives us a valuable opportunity to perfect our offering,” said Naidoo.

“It allows us to focus on refining our service delivery and interior décor finishes, and to run additional intensive employee training.”

Liberty Properties has invested R100 million in the development of the hotel, which is managed by Southern Sun on a 10-year management agreement.

The general manager of the hotel, Annetta Maharaj, and her staff aim to capture market share by becoming the preferred brand for travellers seeking a budget stay-over option.
