Hargreaves: fit for Hawthorns

2011-08-20 00:00

WEST Brom boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed a move for free agent Owen Hargreaves is edging to a close as he proves his fitness.

Hargreaves is available on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer, following an injury-plagued stay at Old Trafford.

The Baggies are ready to offer Hargreaves another crack at the Premier League and Hodgson, revealed the club’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, has been in further discussions with the former England international about a move to The Hawthorns.

“We believe he’s capable of playing top-flight football again and we’re very interested in him.”

Asked whether Hargreaves has had a medical, Hodgson replied: “A minor one, yes. If he was to join us of course he’d have a proper medical with all the scans. We haven’t done that.

“Alex and Owen were keen to show the doctor that the knee was fine,” Hodgson said. — Football365.
