Hausberger wins top event on Sunshine Tour

IT was fitting that the Showjumping Championship of South Africa was won by a woman on Women’s Day.

Gauteng’s Ashlee Hausberger won the premier event of the City of Durban Sunshine Tour Showjumping Championship of South Africa on Monday.

After two tense qualifying rounds of 29 riders, only three riders obtained clear rounds for the jump-off.

Hausberger, Lorette Knowles-Taylor and Shaun Neill, all from Gauteng, contested the revised course in 35-knot south-westerly winds.

Hausberger (19) achieved her third successive clear round on Quinsey to win the event over Knowles-Taylor on Vitaline Aristoteles and Shaun Neill in third place on Clyde Z.

The tour resumes at the Cyril Geoghegan Stadium tomorrow with the Word Cup qualifier.
