Hawks’ Polela in another Twitter row

2012-11-17 00:00

SUSPENDED Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela can’t seem to shake off his online woes.

Polela was recently suspended for tweeting that kwaito singer Jub Jub Maarohanye’s fans should give him a pot of Vaseline to take with him to prison after he was sentenced.

Now it appears that a DA MP — thought to be the party’s police spokesperson Dianne Kohler Barnard — has found a picture of Polela wearing a marijuana leaf T-shirt and issued a statement, saying it was inappropriate for someone in his position to wear such attire.

The picture, which has sparked off a debate, was still on Polela’s Facebook page last night.

“A DA MP has issued a statement 2 say a 7 yr-old pic of me, dreadlocked & studying UK, wearing a Marijuana t-shirt is inappropriate. Dumb!” Polela said on Twitter.

The statement Polela referred to could not be found on the party’s website yesterday.

Polela referred to Kohler Barnard in a second tweet an hour later.

Responding to ‏@ZeldalaGrangeSA, who commented on his initial tweet, Polela said: “If I wear a robe, Dianne Kohler-Barnard will say its feminine. A kilt, that my legs are skinny & pale.”

Contacted by Weekend Witness, he would not speak about his tweets. “I am sick and tired of people publishing what I tweet.”

Kohler Barnard, who was recently involved in a spat on Twitter with Highveld Stereo DJ Anele Mdoda, could not be reached on her cellphone.

Polela, who is now in his 30s, said that the picture was seven years old.

“I was in my 20s,” he said.

Asked by one of his followers if he was still a “holy herb connoisseur”, he said he never smoked the drug.
