Hayfields: Primary school to open for 2014

2013-04-02 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has assured residents that Hayfields Primary School, still under construction at the corner of Hesketh Drive and Foxon Road, will be ready for 2014.

The department’s spokesperson, Sihle Mlotshwa, said: “Since the school is new, details for registration dates will be posted in the local newspapers.”

Construction of classrooms is 95% complete, he added.

Now contractors are speeding up the completion of the sports field that is still outstanding.

“At the progress and technical meeting held on February 28 last year it was agreed that the construction of classrooms will be complete by end of April 2013,” Mlotshwa told The Witness.

Construction of the new school was a way of addressing the influx of pupils travelling from the western to northern suburbs for schooling.

The school will accommodate 1 000 pupils from Grade R to 7.

It will have 24 classrooms and eight specialist rooms and will offer extracurricular activities including sports.
