Health Dept rental clarified

2014-12-15 00:00

AN article in The Witness on December 9 (“Millions on fishy rental deal”) stated that the KZN Department of Health was renting Capital Towers in Pietermaritzburg for R1 464 616,24 per month at over R500 per square metre.

This was according to information supplied by the department in a parliamentary reply. However, Delta Property Fund, the owners of Capital Towers, have pointed out that the area being rented by the department is 13 484 m2, not 2 749 m2 — the stand size — as stated in the parliamentary reply.

This means the price of the rental per square metre is therefore R108,62, well within industry norms, and not R530 as stated in the story.

“Delta strongly refutes any suggestion that the rental is overpriced. As a JSE-listed fund, the company is ever cognisant of its responsibilities towards its funders, investors and good corporate governance in general,” said spokesperson Morné Reinders.
