Hendricks, Faf steer South Africa ‘A’ to final

CAPE TOWN — South Africa “A” qualified for the final of their limited overs tournament at the Harare Sports Club yesterday when they beat Sri Lanka “A” by seven wickets with four overs to spare for their third successive win.

The South Africans play their final qualifying match against Zimbabwe “A” today and this match, together with tomorrow’s match between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, will decide whom they play in the final.

Sri Lanka won the toss and batted first, but their total of 245/7 never looked like being enough after Richard Levi and Colin Ingram put on 55 for the second wicket, and Levi and Faf du Plessis a further 53 for the third wicket.

Du Plessis (89 not out off 107 balls) and Reeza Hendricks (51 not out off 71 balls) then closed out the match with an impressive unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 122 in 21.5 overs. The pair rotated the strike well and were also sharp between the wickets.

Chris Morris had an excellent limited overs debut for South Africa “A”, taking the key wicket of opposing captain, Dimuth Karunaratne, and only conceding 27 runs in his 10 overs.
