Hexagon Theatre Minifest!

2008-02-29 00:00

The annual Theatre Minifest at the Hexagon Theatre is once again upon us, on March 14 and 15. This successful showcase of the best in South African theatre's small cast plays had its first run last year. This year it has a lineup that promises to be even more interesting and exciting. Organised by the Hexagon and Drama & Performance Studies at the local University, the Minifest opens with famed performer Andrew Buckland in 'Voetsek!', and then top performers such as Tim Redpath, Ellis Pearson, Cobus van Heerden and the Umgubho company take to the boards.

The Festival should appeal to young and old, as Ellis Pearson's 'Blackout' is, as always, designed for ages from 6 to 96! Crammed into a day and a half, twelve performances of six different shows (and a late-night musical programme) will blitz 'Maritzburg with an astounding array of theatre. The Hexagon's two theatres will be abuzz for the duration of the Fest, with the Coffee Bar being open for refreshments and snacks. Definitely the place to be on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of March.

The shows are as follows:

Friday 6pm: Voetsek!

Friday 8pm: Prodigal and Happiness Through the Mist

Friday 9.15pm: Mellow Music in the Dive

Saturday 10.30am: Blackout and Mouche

Saturday 2.30pm: Prodigal and Catch!

Saturday 4.30pm: Blackout and Happiness Through the Mist

Saturday 6.30pm: Voetsek! and Mouche

Saturday 8.00pm: Catch!

Tickets are R40 per show and can be booked by phoning the Hexagon on 0332605537 or e-mailing hexagon@ukzn.ac.za - tickets will also be available at the door before each show.
