Hexagon Theatre Minifest: Prodigal

2008-02-29 00:00

A one man show created by director Dani Marais and playwright Lorraine Knox.

Featuring multi-talented Tim Redpath, the show played an extended run to packed houses and standing ovations at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival in July 2006 and 2007.

A neatly plotted and superbly written classic for the modern age, Prodigal follows the tale of a young Eastern Cape farm boy as he decides to leave home and seek out his fortune in the racy and fast-paced city of Joburg. Snappy dialogue, split-second character changes, strong physical acting as well as exciting and innovative directing, helps one man bring a fantastic cast of characters to life.

From a story-telling Xhosa woman to a morally dubious Middle-Eastern restaurant owner named Joe; an opinionated professor to a Godfather-esque gangster, Redpath's vocal dexterity takes us on a rollercoaster journey through this timeless drama filled with pride, rejection and sacrifice.

"A truly talented actor delivers a gripping performance. Deeply moving. A must see!" - Cue News

Prodigal shows at the Hexagon Theatre Minifest at 8pm on March 14 and 2.30pm on March 15.
