HIBBERDENE police recovered two stolen vehicles within an hour during a stop-and-search operation last week.

Station commander Thobekile Shazi, Captain Bongani Memela, Constable Manunu Bhengu and Constable Victus Myende were patrolling on Dumisa Road in Ifafa when they spotted a suspicious white Toyota Corolla.

Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the driver was driving without a valid licence.

The police team discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked earlier this month in Southport.

The suspect was arrested and charged.

Msizi Patrick Zulu appeared in the Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and was charged with driving a vehicle without a licence and possession of stolen property.

The case was adjourned for further investigation.

“He will face a further charge of carjacking in the Southport case,” Wiid said.

Within an hour the four policemen found an abandoned Mercedes Benz on the same road. They discovered that the vehicle had been stolen this month in Amanzimtoti. The vehicle was impounded and will be examined by Amanzimtoti police.
