Hibiscus Coast Municipality official unhappy with two-month remand

2013-11-14 00:00

THE attorney of a senior Hibiscus Coast Municipality official expressed his dissatisfaction at the state’s request for a two-month remand at Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The official has been charged with one count of rape against a nine-year-old, double rape against a 13-year-old (orally and penetration), 10 counts of creating child pornography, possession of child pornography, two counts of sexual assault and intimidation.

Bail was denied in September but the man’s attorney Larry Seethal said papers have been lodged for an appeal at the high court and that an outcome was “anticipated in the next 10 days”.

“At the last court case, the state said the investigation was almost complete with only forensic evidence outstanding. A nine-week remand was granted to get this in order. For the state to now ask for a remand until next January is unacceptable,” said Seethal.

The case was postponed to December 3 for further investigation and for a regional court date.
